The KEYS to Effective Assisting

I love a good assist, don’t you?  A good hands-on adjustment can almost magically amplify verbal cues, awakening new understanding or deepening a student’s awareness.  Skillful hands-on assists can be transformational. 

Under Karin’s expert guidance, discover how hands-on assisting as a mode of communication, connection and of being in service can be empowering for both the instructor and the student. 


In this weekend workshop for yoga teachers, you will learn how to:

 
  • Give effective and supportive assists to your students.

  • Use verbal cuing as your first and primary way of assisting students.

  • Assist safely and effectively, and know when not to assist.

  • Develop confidence in your assisting – by assisting!

  • Ask questions and get feedback on your assists.

  • Read the body to know when and how to assist.

  • Develop your power of touch.

  • Be precise: direction, duration and intensity all matter.

  • Assist ethically.

  • Work with energy and the breath when assisting.

 

Practice assisting on each other during class and on real students in a special assisting class on Sunday afternoon.

Each weekend workshop is one part of a 40-Hour, Four-Part Training and is available for Continuing Education Credits with Yoga Alliance.

 While even in four parts we cannot cover every pose and every assist, we will cover principles and apply them to multiple postures each weekend. 

 

Part I

Back Bends:  Warrior I, Half Moon Pose with variation, Thigh Stretch, Cobra, Pigeon, Bow, Bridge, Camel, Wheel, Shoulder Stand.

Karin Eisen is an E-RYT-500 who has been practicing yoga since 1981 and teaching it since 2000.  She has been leading Yoga Teacher Training Programs since 2006.
